Health Testing One of the key areas that distinguishes Wildflower Havanese as a dedicated Havanese breeder from a more casual breeder is health testing, which costs hundreds of dollars per adult dog. We love our dogs, however we will not breed even the most adorable if the dog tests with a congenital condition. These assessments are performed by a licensed veterinarian and help to make sure that the pups we place are as healthy as possible. We follow the health testing guidelines of the Havanese Club of America which has stipulated four tests that are required to qualify your dog for a CHIC designation, the official designation for our breed. Health tests Wildflower Havanese dogs receive include the following: 1. The BAER hearing test. This test is done once in a dog's lifetime, after five weeks of age. 2. The OFA patella test. This test is done once in a dog's lifetime after they reach one year of age. 3. The OFA hip test. This test is done once in a dog's lifetime after they reach two years of age. 4. The CERF eye exam. This test is done annually beginning at one year, until the dog reaches eight years of age. Visit the Havanese Club of America (HCA) website for up to date health information on our breed. |
